Use your head: The Facts about Concussion

It seems we can't turn on the TV, read a paper or listen to the radio without hearing mention of yet another concussed athlete.   We hear all the time about  traumatic brain injuries that interrupt or end professional athletic careers, and a recent US study found that the rate of concussion in youth athletes has more than doubled in the last decade.*

This first KOPI Corner Seminar will examine "concussion" and feature a presentation by Dr. Michael O'Connor, Professor of Emergency Medicine.  Dr. O'Connor will begin by debunking concussion myths and then provide insight into:

* How to recognize when an athlete is concussed,
* What the risks are of missing or not managing a concussion, and
* How to properly manage and treat a concussed athlete

Following the presentation, Dr. O'Connor will be joined by a panel of experts for a question & answer session.   Guests will have a unique opportunity, in an informal setting, to ask questions and get advice from an expert panel of health professionals including a rehabilitation team, orthopaedic surgeon and pain specialist.
