Kingston Orthopaedic Pain Institute (KOPI) was founded in 2008, offering a patient-centric multidisciplinary approach intended to improve the quality of life for individuals and their families. Our progressive and diversified team is focused on delivering a variety of information, education, treatment and procedure offerings.  KOPI’s talent roster is committed and passionate about our purpose and leadership is mandated to create a positive work culture that allows KOPI to a workplace of choice for team members.  

 

Mandate  

Kingston Orthopaedic Pain Institute and our valued patients require Medical Radiation Technologists that will work alongside Pains Physicians and Ortho / Sports Medicine Doctors during intervention pain procedures in the fluoroscopy rooms.  The MRT applies ionizing radiation in order to assist the Pain Specialist Physician in diagnostic and therapeutic pain procedures.  The MRT’s mandate is as follows: 

 

  • Operates C-Arm and acquires Fluoroscopic images for the Physician during a procedure; 

  • Utilizes sterile techniques to prepare Physician’s trays and medical supplies; 

  • Operates Radiofrequency Ablation equipment, utilizing techniques to ensure patient safety;  

  • Educates patients about the imaging process, radiation safety, procedure details, post-procedure care and confirms patient demographic records diligently; 

  • Adheres to MRT responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act and KOPI’s procedure manual; 

  • Monitors patient comfort status and documents procedure; 

  • Restocks supplies for the Fluoro rooms for the next series of scheduled procedures; 

  • Completes other duties as required by physicians, charge technologist and leadership members.

Qualifications and Experience 

 

Kingston Orthopaedic Pain Institute has settled into a new state-of-art facility and we continue to receive a high volume of referrals from Eastern Ontario’s Family Physicians. Criteria to qualify for this role include: 

    

  • Diploma from an Accredited Medical Technologist (MRT) Program; 

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging  Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO); 

  • Advanced skeletal knowledge and an ability to lift or move patients when required; 

  • Educated in blood pressure, Oxygen monitoring and BLS trained; 

  • Superior oral and written communication skills to develop authentic relationships with patients and colleagues; 

  • Established organizational and analytical skills with a high attention to accuracy and detail; 

  • Demonstrated commitment life-long learning.

Role & Responsibilities of Intake Assessor:

  • Completing the detailed patient assessment and physical exam

  • Entering all information into patient charting

  • Brief physician and co-ordinate meeting patient

  • Ensure that all other modalities within clinic are mentioned

  • Ensure that all other modalities within clinic are mentioned

  • Document and send letters required to appropriate physicians etc

  • Forward referral/imaging requests

  • Preparing room for day’s assessments

  • Ensuring appointments and kept on schedule

  • Collect urine to be sent to lab for UDT

  • Continual cleaning of assessment room and tools

Intake Assessors complete initial assessments of pain patients under the supervision of a Physician. They collect all medical history, do a brief physical exam, and report all findings to the Physician. Intake Assessors are responsible for the reporting of all assessment and treatment plan suggestions being sent to referring physicians/clinics.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Life Sciences or Kinesiology is required

  • Must be able to work well under pressure and strict timelines

  • Must be able to lift and move patients where necessary

  • Must have strong communication, compassion, patience and professionalism

  • Must have vast knowledge of MS Word, Excel & email

  • Will be exposed to sharps and bodily fluids (UDT, Intravenous)
